How does order tracking work in Simple Chat?
Order tracking runs in the same conversation as everything else. Once the customer's order is verified, the assistant reports current shipment status, tracking numbers, and carrier updates whenever that information is available, and follow-ups like "is it out for delivery?" or "did it leave the warehouse?" stay in the thread rather than spawning a new support channel.
What standard order data covers
Shopify already knows whether a shipping label exists, which carrier has the package, and the tracking number a customer could take to the carrier's site for more detail. The assistant surfaces all of that in plain language, and your team sees the same thread if they ever need to step in.
What the tracking page feature adds
Enable it and the assistant can interpret detailed tracking history and answer with the milestone language shoppers expect from carriers: in transit, out for delivery, delivered. That's a real step up from pasting a bare tracking number into chat.
Without the feature, answers still reflect what Shopify and basic tracking fields provide, which means accurate shipment status, tracking numbers, and carrier names when fulfillment has recorded them. Many stores turn on the deeper level when post-purchase anxiety drives a big share of tickets; match it to how much detail your team usually gives by phone or email.
When there's nothing to track yet
- The order hasn't shipped: the assistant explains that and what happens next.
- Fulfilled but no carrier scan: it notes that updates often appear after the first hub scan.
- Amazon Shipping TBA numbers: Shopify often has the tracking number without scan events. With the tracking page feature on, the assistant reads Amazon's public tracker — the same page customers open — and reports those scans in the thread.
- Wrong order or failed email verification: it does not expose another customer's shipment. That goes to staff through a safe handoff.
Honest expectations in each case, not invented delivery dates.
The payoff for your team
Every order-tracking answer in the widget is one fewer repetitive email in your inbox. And shipment questions tend to become something else: an address change, a hold, a cancellation. Because order lookup, tracking, and those actions run in the same Simple Chat conversation, a customer with a delayed package doesn't have to restart in email, and staff who take over see the full story.
