Can the AI modify shipping addresses?

Yes. The assistant retrieves the address currently on the order, validates the replacement, and writes the update to Shopify, all inside the conversation. Three deliberate steps, because a wrong address means failed delivery, reship costs, and an angry customer.

The three steps

  1. Retrieve. The assistant loads what's on file today, street, city, postal code, country, so the customer confirms the starting point.
  2. Validate. The shopper provides the corrected address, and the assistant checks it for completeness and obvious problems before submission.
  3. Update. Only after the customer confirms the new details is the change applied to the order in Shopify.

Each step exists so "change my address" can't quietly become "change it to an incomplete string" because someone was in a hurry.

Do it before fulfillment starts

Address changes work best before fulfillment begins. Once an order is packed or handed to a carrier, systems and carriers may not accept edits the same way. If the order is too far along, the assistant says so plainly and offers staff escalation, which might mean attempting a carrier intercept or walking the customer through the refusal and reship policies your team defines.

What customers should double-check

  • Apartment, unit, suite, or buzzer numbers
  • City and postal code matching the selected country
  • Phone number, when your fulfillment or carrier workflow relies on one
  • Express checkout wallets. Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay can replace the address typed on the storefront with the address saved in the wallet. When a customer reports a wrong unit or apartment after one of those checkouts, the assistant explains that overwrite and points them at the wallet's saved address and the order-confirmation email before continuing the usual address or replacement workflow.

Those are the usual suspects behind failed deliveries.

No form links to lose

The exchange happens in chat, so there's no separate form to send and misplace, and the thread records exactly what the customer authorized if staff audit it later. Address changes also pair naturally with holds: pause fulfillment while the typo gets fixed, so the warehouse doesn't ship to the old street mid-correction.
