Does the chat widget work across browser tabs?
Yes. Simple Chat uses cross-tab synchronization so customers see one consistent chat experience even when they open your store in multiple browser tabs.
Shoppers often compare products in several tabs or keep checkout open while browsing elsewhere. Without sync, they might see duplicate empty chats or lose context when switching tabs—Simple Chat avoids that friction.
How cross-tab sync works for customers
When a customer has your storefront open in more than one tab, the chat session stays aligned across those tabs. Message history, open state, and ongoing conversation context carry over instead of resetting each time they focus a different tab.
That means a shopper who started a question on a product page and then opened a second tab for sizing info does not have to re-explain what they were looking at.
Why it matters for support quality
Cross-tab sync reduces duplicate conversations and confused handoffs. Your team sees one thread per customer session rather than several fragmented chats that all ask the same question.
It also pairs naturally with page context: as the customer moves between tabs and pages, the assistant can still ground answers in what they are browsing without the customer repeating product names.
What merchants should expect
You do not configure cross-tab sync separately—it is built into the storefront widget experience. After enabling the app embed, test by opening your store in two tabs, sending a message in one, and confirming the other tab reflects the same conversation.
If a customer fully closes the browser or clears site data, they may start fresh on a later visit—that is normal browser behavior and not a limitation of the sync feature during an active session.
