Can I change the AI assistant's name and avatar?
Yes. You can set a custom assistant name and upload a custom SVG avatar in Simple Chat Branding settings. Those choices are what customers see in the chat widget when they talk to your AI.
Branding the assistant helps the experience feel like your store—not a generic bot.
What to configure
In Branding you control:
- Assistant name — The display name above or beside messages (for example your mascot, “Alex from Support”, or a product specialist persona).
- Avatar — A custom SVG image shown next to AI messages in the widget.
Staff messages use your team’s identity rules separately; this setting targets the automated assistant customers recognize.
How to update name and avatar
- Open Simple Chat in Shopify Admin.
- Go to Branding (or the branding section in settings).
- Enter your desired assistant name—keep it short and pronounceable for chat.
- Upload your SVG avatar (follow any size or format guidance shown in settings).
- Save and open your storefront chat preview to confirm the name and image render clearly on mobile and desktop.
Use a simple, high-contrast SVG so the avatar stays crisp at small sizes in the widget header and message list.
Branding tips that work well in production
- Match tone — A playful name fits a lifestyle brand; a neutral “Support” fits B2B or luxury.
- Stay honest — Customers understand AI-assisted support; the name can be on-brand without impersonating a specific human employee.
- Pair with theme styling — Colors and radius come from the theme editor app block; name and avatar come from Branding. Adjust both so the widget feels cohesive.
After changes, spot-check a live conversation to ensure the avatar does not clip or overlap long names in narrow mobile layouts.
