Can I import and export FAQs?

Yes. Simple Chat supports CSV import and export for FAQ content so you can back up your library, edit in a spreadsheet, or move answers between environments without retyping every entry in the admin.

Import and export use the same column structure, which keeps round-trips predictable when you export, edit offline, and import again.

What the CSV includes

The FAQ CSV format includes:

ColumnNotes
questionCustomer-facing or match-oriented question text
answerThe reply the AI should treat as authoritative
topicOptional grouping label
typefaq or announcement

Scheduling fields are not part of the CSV. Start and end dates, and start and end times, are managed in the Simple Chat app after import (or when editing an entry individually).

Export your current library

  1. Open Simple ChatSettings → FAQs.
  2. Use the export option to download a CSV of your existing entries.
  3. Edit the file in your spreadsheet tool—fix typos, add rows, or reorganize topics.
  4. Keep the column headers and type values valid so import succeeds.

Export is useful for reviews with your support lead, version control in shared drives, or preparing a large update offline.

Import updated content

  1. Prepare or revise your CSV with question, answer, topic, and type columns.
  2. Upload through the FAQ import flow in Settings.
  3. After import, open entries in the app to set or verify scheduling for seasonal or time-limited FAQs.

Plan imports carefully if you rely on scheduled windows—re-importing content does not replace in-app schedule configuration via the spreadsheet.

Import/export vs in-app editing

  • CSV: Best for bulk changes, backups, and migrations.
  • In-app: Best for scheduling, one-off edits, and testing how a single new FAQ affects replies.

Together, both options keep your knowledge base maintainable as the store grows.
