Not for production stores, if free means unlimited use at $0. There's no ongoing free option outside development testing. But there's also no monthly subscription charge, so you aren't paying a flat fee either way: cost scales with what the AI resolves.

What live stores pay

Production billing is usage-based: $0.29 per AI resolution, with usage charges capped at $5,000 per 30-day billing period, counted from when you accept billing. Fewer AI-resolved segments means a smaller bill, because there's no base charge underneath.

Where free genuinely applies

Development stores can use Simple Chat free of charge while testing, which is how you evaluate the product before paying usage charges. Build and rehearse flows, validate integrations and messaging, and try staff handoff before customers ever see the live experience, all without usage-based app charges.

When the store goes live, usage billing applies: $0.29 per AI resolution, still subject to the $5,000 cap per 30-day billing period.

So read "free" as development testing, not unlimited production use at $0. Once you exit development-only testing on a production store, plan for per-conversation billing.
