How do I customize the chat widget appearance?

In the Shopify theme editor, on Simple Chat's app block, the same place you edit any other section or block in Online Store. Widget styling follows your normal theme workflow: preview, draft, publish.

The app block has three groups of controls:

• Colors, so the widget matches your primary brand colors, buttons, and backgrounds.
• Border radius: sharper corners for a minimal look, softer for a friendlier consumer brand.
• Light or dark appearance, including automatic behavior (covered in the dark mode FAQ).

The exact steps

1. In Shopify Admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
2. Click Customize on your live or draft theme.
3. Navigate to where the chat block is enabled. It's often global via a theme app embed, sometimes a specific section, depending on your placement.
4. Select the Simple Chat app block in the sidebar.
5. Adjust colors, radius, and appearance while watching the preview pane.
6. Save once the widget looks right on both mobile and desktop breakpoints.

If you run multiple themes, seasonal or international, repeat for each theme that should show chat.

What this buys you, and what lives elsewhere

Because the controls live in the theme, the widget inherits the visual decisions you already made for headers, fonts, and buttons. Designers and marketers can iterate without a developer deploy for every color tweak, and theme drafts give you a safe rollback instead of instantly changing production.

The assistant's name and avatar are not theme settings. Those come from Branding in Simple Chat, separate from colors and radius.
